30 days zero waste challenge - starting now, together.

Today marks Day One of my 30 Days Zero Waste Challenge. I am not looking back. I am stepping into a month of plastic-free shopping, sustainable swaps, and rethinking my kitchen habits.
30 days zero waste challenge - starting now, together.

I have already made some progress. I no longer buy exotic food I am not sure I will enjoy. We have our favorite meals we love and return to, so I usually buy the same produce. But now I want to take this journey with you.

Small changes add up. Every piece of plastic avoided is a vote for a healthier planet. Leadership in sustainability begins with the decision to take the first step together.

My goal next month is simple: to replace at least one hundred single-use or plastic items in my kitchen with better alternatives. I will share what works, what challenges me, and everything in between: no filters, no perfection.

I invite you to join me. Whether you are a zero waste veteran or just curious, let us start this challenge side by side. Track your waste. Swap one item. Shop plastic-free. Share your wins and your struggles.

Are you in?

Let us lead lightly, live sustainably, and make the next thirty days count.

30 Days Zero Waste  Your Roadmap

Challenge Theme: 100 sustainable switches in the kitchen and while shopping
Start: July 1st, together
Goal: Not perfection, but honest progress

I am starting with no perfect plan. No expert badge. Just a decision.

For these thirty one days, I will try to reduce my kitchen waste to almost zero. No plastic bags. No cling film. No half-used sauces sitting forgotten in the back of the fridge. I want to know what it actually means to live more consciously. To shop more responsibly. To stop outsourcing the cost of convenience to the planet.

And I am not doing this alone.

I invite you to join me. Not just to observe, but to try. Start small. Start messy. But start.

This is not about guilt. It is about curiosity. About noticing how different daily life feels when we question the norm. When we ask: what if less was more?

This challenge is not an aesthetic. It is not about Instagram-friendly pantries. It is about habits, impact, and honesty.

Here is how we will begin.

Each week has a clear focus. Small shifts. Daily action. No overwhelm.

Week 1 - Plastic-Free Shopping

Focus: Preparation and awareness

What we avoid

  • Single-use plastic wrap
  • Plastic bags
  • Pre-packaged produce
  • Takeaway coffee cups and plastic lids
  • Plastic cutlery and straws

What we switch to

  • Cloth bags for bread and vegetables
  • Glass jars and stainless steel containers
  • Thermos or reusable cups
  • Farmers markets and bulk stores
  • Saying “No thank you” to free plastic items

Week 2 - A Low-Waste Kitchen Setup

Focus: Storage and reusables

What we avoid

  • Cling film and aluminum foil
  • Plastic food storage containers
  • Disposable baking paper
  • Paper towels

What we switch to

  • Beeswax wraps and silicone lids
  • Glass and stainless steel containers
  • Reusable baking mats
  • Cotton cloths or old cut-up t-shirts

Week 3 - Cleaning and Dishwashing

Focus: Swapping out toxic and wasteful cleaning tools

What we avoid

  • Plastic dish brushes and sponges
  • Harsh chemical cleaners in plastic bottles
  • Single-use wipes

What we switch to

  • Wooden brushes with replaceable heads
  • Natural vinegar-based cleaners
  • Baking soda, lemon, and castile soap
  • Refillable containers or zero waste shops

Week 4 - Food Habits and Composting

Focus: Waste prevention and closing the loop

What we avoid

  • Letting food go bad
  • Overbuying and impulse purchases
  • Throwing food scraps in the trash

What we switch to

  • Meal planning and shopping with a list
  • Cooking with what we already have
  • Freezing leftovers and using up scraps creatively
  • Starting a compost system or joining a local compost hub

Optional Extras If You Feel Ready

  • Try a week without packaged snacks
  • Learn how to make your own oat milk or nut butter
  • Host a plastic-free dinner
  • Share your wins and challenges with others

You do not need to do it all. You just need to do it with intention. Even ten percent less waste is a win. This is not about a perfect zero. It is a living practice. Something to learn from -not perform.

So let us begin.
Thirty days. A simpler kitchen. A clearer mind. A gentler footprint.
